NZ Multiple Sclerosis Research Trust fundraising luncheon supporting urgent efforts to improve neurological care in New Zealand. The country faces a critical shortage of neurologists, and the gap is especially acute for specialists with expertise in multiple sclerosis (MS). Current figures show New Zealand has roughly one neurologist for every 77,000 people, a ratio that starkly contrasts with Australia’s one neurologist per 30,000 people.
International research predicts that neurological diseases will become the leading cause of death in this country by 2040, surpassing cancer, heart disease and diabetes. That shift will touch every community, family and health service. Preparing for it requires urgent, concrete action — and training more specialists now is the single most important step. It takes 13 to 15 years to train a specialist, so NZ needs to be training more people now.
During the luncheon, guests will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a silent auction featuring an impressive selection of items. From unique experiences to stylish goods, the auction promises something for everyone, creating a fun and engaging way to contribute to the cause.
By attending this luncheon, you’re not only enjoying a delightful meal but also playing an important part in promoting MS research in New Zealand. Your support helps pave the way for better treatments and, ultimately, a brighter future for those living with MS.
